Text: “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary the one to the other; so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”Gal 5:17
The penalty of sin has been paid; the power of sin has been broken. The challenge with all of us is that the flesh wants to be in control. The flesh wants to walk against what we know is right and godly. The flesh is constantly at war with the Spirit. When the flesh is allowed to rule then the practice of sin sets in.
This is where our personal responsibility comes in. If sin will not lord itself over us then we must take some definite steps. The first of them is to stop every excuse for sin in our lives. Some will say “everybody is doing it”, it may sound logical, but that kind of thinking will keep sin alive in your life. We are not supposed to follow everybody; we supposed to look up to Christ as our perfect example.
Secondly we must make choices that are consistent with godly living. I heard a statement years back that really helped me to live right, it says “You cannot feed your mind on junk and expect to be a treasure”. What you watch, what you listen to have a major impact on your life as a believer. Some have become addicted to immoral thoughts and practice as a result of wrong films and music they have been exposed to.
Thirdly, we must ensure that our source of advice in life is right. The kind of environment we spend our time matters. If you spend your time with ungodly friends and influences it will be easier for sin to gain control over your life. David said “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful”. Psalm 1:1
Lastly don’t cover sin in your life. Expose it to God in prayer and bring it under the blood of Jesus.
CONFESSION:
Grace is at work in me to make godly choices. No more excuses for sin in my life.
