Collapsed building: Architect’s corpse, four others recovered
No fewer than 25 people were rescued while five corpses were recovered from a building which collapsed at 8 Muri Okunola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
PUNCH Metro had reported that the building collapsed on Monday, trapping people who were doing construction work.
It was learnt that rescue efforts ended on Tuesday afternoon after officials recovered the corpse of the architect of the building identified as Oyedele Oyeleke.
According to eyewitnesses, Oyeleke entered into the building some minutes before it collapsed.
It was learnt that most of the victims were rescued at midnight but the search continued for Oyeleke’s corpse.
Around 5.30pm on Tuesday, the architect’s corpse was recovered and taken to a mortuary.
Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Razaq Fadipe, said, “Altogether, we were able to rescue 25 people while five corpse were recovered. Rescue efforts have now officially ended.”
The General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Dr. Abimbola Animashaun, said investigations were ongoing.
She said, “Investigations are ongoing and I cannot say much now.”
However, General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Femi Oke-Osayintolu, said the remaining part of the building would be demolished.
