Bayelsa woman stabs cheating Husband to death

Bayelsa State police last week arrested a 27-year-old woman who allegedly stabbed her husband to death in Azikoro, a suburb of Yenagoa. According to eyewitness reports, the woman, Osas Omorege, stabbed her husband, one Chukwuma Iwu, to death over his alleged infidelity. The couple’s marital bliss fell to pieces when Omorege became suspicious of Iwu’s activities after a string of inexplicable late night outings.

Two Fridays ago, the murdered man reportedly received a phone call which his wife suspected was from one of his lovers. “After returning late to his matrimonial home he received a phone call which the wife suspected was coming from his girlfriend and attempted to stop him from answering it,” a source said. Consequently, a scuffle ensued and the late Mr. Iwu ordered his wife to move out of their house, an order which she refused to obey. Apparently, Iwu grabbed a kitchen knife with which he intended to frighten Osas, and that was the weapon with which she eventually murdered him.

Iwu’s cries for help brought neighbours to the scene and he was taken to a health facility in the community where he was later confirmed dead. The Bayelsa State police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Fidelis Odunna (DSP), confirmed the incident, stating that the woman voluntarily gave up herself to the police. He added that she would be charged to court for murder.
