Almost 60% of Europeans believe cash is the dirtiest item they come into contact with, ahead of escalator handrails, b*ttons on payment terminals and library books, according to a survey of 1,000 people released on March 25 by Mastercard.

A further 83% of the respondents, taken from 15 countries across Europe, believe cash carries a lot of bacteria. And they are right.

Angry In-Laws throw man down from a 2-storey building

A young man, Ejike Igwekile, has been thrown down from a two-storey building at Okota, Lagos by his angry in-laws at Okota, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria.

Ejike’s sin is that he allegedly beat his wife, Nkiru, 27, from Delta State, south-south Nigeria, and she ran away with their only daughter to her parents’ house at Orile Coker, Lagos, barely a year after they got married.

According to Igwekile, who is from Okija in Anambra State, southeast Nigeria, sometime this year they had a little quarrel and Nkiru took their only daughter to her parents’ house when he left for his business.

He said trouble started when their baby fell sick and his wife phoned him to bring money so that she could take her to a hospital for treatment.

ARISHA

The dry harmattan breeze descends on me the moment I take my first step down the mobile stairs on the pickup attached to the hatchway of the plane.

“So are you still going to give me your number?”

I mentally roll my eyes and concentrate on finding my way to the ground. The rotund man with a single tribal mark cutting through his left cheek had done his best for the most of the fifty five minutes flight to wriggle my phone number out of me. The three inch wedge heel of my cream and red sandals connects with the ground and I breathe out a sigh of relief. Flying has never been my favourite mode of transportation.

“Your number?”

I stop and turn to the man trailing me with the edge of his babanriga flapping around him. A young mother strolls past me, trying without success to keep her hold on her young son and a massive hand bag.

“I don’t give out my number to strangers.”

The man gives me an affected laugh, and then treats me to a far too sensual appraisal. I prepare to tell him off in the most unfriendly way I can manage when he reaches into the pocket of his babanriga and produces a black complimentary card.

“Here is my card,” he says, extending the card towards me. “Call me.”

It occurs to me that taking this man’s card is the only way to shake him off, so I pluck the card out of his fingers and without so much as a backward glance, hurry to the terminal where most of the passengers are already searching out their bags.

*****************************************

I tap my feet on the concrete walkway, waiting for my call to be picked. I wait in vain because the beep of a call not picked soon reaches my ears.

User not reachable

I feel the familiar weight of disappointment settle in the pit of my stomach as I stare at phone, unwilling to accept what is happening. With a tired sigh, I look at my semi-soft large suitcase and wonder if it can survive the weight of a five foot six inches female with a sizable amount of fat on her backside. The ringing of my phone cuts short my contemplation, and I look down at it, half expecting to see the name of my host, but it is my elder brother Peter calling.

“Are you on your way to Mr. Seye’s house now?”

I look at the piece of paper in my hand. Seye Akinlabi. 8 Abeokuta Street, Area 8, Garki.

“I have called him over five times but he is not picking my calls.”

“When did you arrive Abuja?” My brother asks in a worried tone.

“Thirty minutes ago.”

“Okay. Let me try calling him. I will call you back soon.”

I lower the phone in my hand and shift my weight to my right leg and try not to yawn as a stream of passengers head in my direction. I take in my surroundings. Small trimmed bushes line the walkway on either side and the car park beside it is bustling with activities as taxi drivers try to sweet talk passengers into patronizing them. I look in envy as two women wait beside a minivan watching a slightly built young man heave three suitcases into the trunk of the minivan. My phone begins to ring again.

“I am sorry, but there has been a change in plans.”

I look back at the terminal, feeling physically ill. “I am going to sleep in the airport?”

“No,” Peter says, laughing softly. Bless my brother for his knack for seeing the funny side in everything. I am not so lucky. I am the pessimist of the family. “I just spoke with Seye and it turns out he has some family problems that needs his urgent attention, so he left Abuja this evening.”

“Oh no.”

“I called somebody else.”

“Okay?”

“My old friend Amina….she has an apartment in Wuse two. She is going to call you right now with directions to the place. So goodbye for now and let me know what happens.”

Amina calls ten minutes later. Her voice is friendly and warm.

“Hello there, am I speaking with Arisha?”

When I confirm my identity, Amina goes on to express sympathy over my plight.

“Sorry about that dear…Is this your first time in Abuja?”

“Yes.”

Amina tells me that the airport is quite far from the city. I tell her about the taxi drivers in the car park.

“They are usually very expensive…do you have enough money on you?”

“Yes.”

I will be proud if my child is Gay- Ex Governor's daughter, Kemi Omololu

She is known as the Facebook drama queen, Kemi Omololu Olunloyo is about the most trending Nigerian politician on social media.

She lets us in on her view about gay union ban in Nigeria, wishing she had a gay child in her latest Facebook post.

“I Will Be Proud If My Child Is Gay’ – Kemi Omololu – Olunloyo. Read why you #Nigerians need to STOP discriminating against gays. Stay away from #Canada and #America. I support gay anytime.

There is NO such penalties for #GAYS in #Nigeria. I am taking up the #Nigerian Govt and all your f*cking lawmakers. They can’t even pass a gay marriage ban in 2 years of mouthing but yet they can give your billions to Canada to conduct an HIV test in Benue which is full of infected gays sleeping with women at the same time. You guys are not my FANS, U are just a bunch of fake POS! U want me to agree with all your “nice” views so u can SUCK up to me? Wonder why I don’t talk to any of you or LIKE comments. Stop doing follow follow, Canada is the most gay friendly country on EARTH and nobody has HIV. They take our money knowing that we hate gays. As a CVS HIV Procare Pharmacist, we should be educating gays about safe sèx rather than stigmatizing them. Use your head NIGERIANS. Ignorance does not excuse stupidity.

There Is No Nigerian Leader Who Has Not Consulted Marabouts, Prophets, Engaged In Animal Sacrifices – Soyinka

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has blamed Nigerian leaders who in their desperate bid to hold on to power by all means, have introduced a dangerous trend for students to follow.

Soyinka spoke in Port Harcourt on Monday at a two-day education summit organized by the Rivers State government.

Soyinka, who said Nigerian leaders were in the habit of sacrificing animals in order to remain in power, observed that the situation was encouraging students to join cultism.

The renowned author, who chaired the opening session, noted that normal university cultures like fraternities had been misconstrued to mean cultism.

He said, “Give me the name of any head of state who has not been consulting marabouts and prophets and so on, sacrificing goats, animals in the dead of night to receive a third term in office and so on and then you start blaming students, they are imitating the same thing the infirmity society itself has become.

“So, they can no longer distinguish between a genuine fraternity and a secret cult of which society is riddled all the way from the top.

“The rot in our education system is trickling all the way down to secondary schools, into some primary schools. Normal university cultures like fraternities have been misconstrued” he noted.

Baby left in car with a note that read: 'My mum's in doing the shopping, call her if i need anything'

Seriously! A mother in Porirua, New Zealand left her baby in a locked car on Saturday (March 23) during a supermarket run, reports said.

The abandoned baby was seen wrapped in a blanket with a note, visible to anyone walking by that requested to call the mother for help if anything happened.

After a photo of the baby and the note was published in The New Zealand Herald, people of course got riled up. Leaving a child unattended can lead to severe consequences in any country.

A parking-lot witness told the newspaper: “It was written from the baby’s perspective, and it said, ‘my mum’s in doing the shopping, call her if I need anything,’ and it had the cellphone number. We waited there for a little bit, wondering if the mum was just going to be two seconds and come back. And my wife said, ‘I’m not going in without someone being here with the baby.’”

Since no formal complaints have been filed, police are not currently investigating the incident, but witnesses expressed their disdain for the woman most of them called ‘heartless’ for leaving her baby unattended to.

7 men found dead and placed on plastic chair with a message pinned to their chest in Mexico

These shocking photos show how the bodies of seven men were found on plastic chairs in Mexico having been shot in the head, with threat messages nailed to some of their chests using ice picks.

A placard on one of the bodies, which were found early yesterday morning in Uruapan, Michoacan state, said: ‘Warning! This will happen to thieves, kidnappers, s*x offenders and extortionists.’

Seven bodies had bullet wounds and had been placed individually in the sitting position in chairs near a roundabout, local authorities said. The local attorney general’s office did not provide a motive.

Why we chose to wed in Dubai- Tu face & Annie

“I think there is this spiritual connection. We thought of a perfect place for the white wedding and the idea of Dubai came up. I don’t know about crowd control. We just want to have the best of the moment and make sure things go rightly. There is nothing more to it. It does not have to do with controlling the people or anything. The fact is that you can’t run away from the people. Anywhere you go, you will meet people and these people have come to celebrate with us. Let’s just say that we love Dubai and we also discovered that it was a perfect venue for us. “ 2face Idibia told Glitz in a recent interview.

Kim K in her quest to remain forever young

Kim is up for anything that will make her stay youthful, as long as it's not surgery. She tweeted this photo of herself during an acupuncture session.

Acupuncture is a good alternative for women who would rather avoid a surgical facelift. According to Acupuncturists, 'it is designed to free up chi, or energy. When the needles - approximately 30-40 - are applied to the body and face, production of collagen and elastin may be stimulated, which results in the skin looking 'plumped up. It helps your own body create a more youthful appearance!

'I don't produce fake drugs, i only package them'- 58yr old suspect

The Lagos State Police Command has accused a 58-year-old Ikenna Nne of producing “large quantity of” substandard drugs.

The suspect, however, said he never produced drugs but only packaged them in a way that made them look original.

Some of the drugs found in his possession comprise five large cartons of fake Zentel tablets, thousands of packs of Zentel tablets and a large quantity of printed packets for packaging Postinor tablets.

The suspect however said although the goods were not produced by the real manufacturers, they were still as effective.

"Oga At The Top" says NSCDC Lagos Commandant has not committed any offence

The Commandant General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Ade Abolurin, has made it clear that the Lagos State Corps Commandant, Mr Obafaiye Shem, has not committed any punishable offence on the account of the recent television interview he granted. The NSCDC boss also debunked rumours that Mr Obafaiye had been suspended.

Abolurin made this known on Wednesday, in Abuja, at the annual national cooperative society meeting of the corps. He said if the Lagos State commandant was interviewed, and in the process lost his composure, that “did not call for sanction.”

According to Abolurin, “it is an internal measure; we will keep you posted; we are still on course because he has not committed any offence. If a person is being interviewed, and in the process the person could not compose himself, that does not result to a crime; it is a question of maturity,” he stated.

He however expressed determination to engage officers in more training and re-training: “You know I am an advocate of building skills, encouraging trainings, human development and capacity building. We are trying at all levels to ensure that our men are well trained and well articulated because training is supposed to be continuous,” he added.

Jonathan, had at a Nigeria Summit in Lagos on Tuesday stated that his administration would still remove fuel subsidy after due consultations with Nigerians but the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, said that even though it did not know the form the consultations the President spoke about would take, it maintained its stance that fuel price increase was inimical to the well-being of Nigerians.
