Child theft in Churches: Woman steals baby from redeemed,Another from vigil

In a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RGGC) Central Parish, located at Aminu Kanu Crescent, Wuse II, Abuja, a female member of the choir named Comfort Amos, 40, abducted a 9 month old baby (Toni) during service.

Apparently, she sat next to the mother of the child( Toyin Obafemi) whose husband( Timothy Taiwo Obafemi) is the choir master and carried the child under the guise of playing with the baby as is customary in most places. She excused herself with the pretext of going to give her house-help money for offering, and never came back. The mother, naturally, after a few minutes went around to search for her to hand over the baby but couldn’t find her. She started asking around and when someone tried to call her, she answered rudely and said that she was at Jabi park but was returning shortly.

She never took her calls after that and has since turned off her phone. The parents are frantic with worry and apart from this, there haven’t been any leads concerning the story. Her parents have reached out to the general public, police and social networking sites for help. Please call these numbers if you have any information: 08064966277, 08075672060.

In another incident, investigations are under way in a case concerning a certain Ms Kemi Adeoye, 28, who was arrested by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Iyaganku, for attempting to steal a baby during a vigil service in a church.

While the mother of the child was praying in front of the altar, Ms Adeoye picked up her baby who she had laid to sleep and tied her to her back and walked out of the church, she went into a chalet inside the church compound and locked herself in.

Luckily, one of the workers in the church noticed that someone had gained access into the chalet but was perturbed as he had not given anyone the keys. He curiously knocked on the door and there was a response. He asked her to open the door but she remained mute.

The door was eventually forced open and people who had gathered around in the ensuing drama found the lady with the baby strapped to her back. The mother of the baby incidentally, saw that it was her baby who was supposedly sleeping in the church and raised an alarm.

Ms Kemi Adeoye has been arrested and has subsequently confessed, admitting that she was paid to perpetrate he dastardly act by a woman, and that she had successfully, prior to this incident, abducted a child before from a CAC church at Apete but has failed to furnish the police with information regarding the whereabouts of the baby.
