Lauryn Hill checks into prison to serve her three month sentence for tax evasion

Lauryn Hill checked into prison on Monday to serve her three month sentence for tax evasion.

The 38-year-old songstress reportedly booked into the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut at around 11:15 AM Eastern Standard Time, according to TMZ.

The facility is said to be 'minimum security'.

Her home for the next 3months

Hill's jail stay comes after she was sentenced back in May.

During her day in Federal court, Lauren compared her experience in the music business to the slavery her ancestors endured before a judge sentenced her to three months in prison for failing to pay about $1 million in taxes over the past decade.

Men of the Apapa Police Division have arrested a pickpocket identified as Terry Umuokoro.

22-year-old Umuokoro was arrested last week at a hotel along Ojo Road, Ajegunle, Lagos. He had allegedly resided at the hotel for two months.

Also arrested were five others, suspected to have taken part in a robbery operation at Senator Muse Road, Apapa in June 2013.

Umuokoro however denied being part of any robbery operation. He said he was only a pickpocket.

“I pick pockets for a living, I am not a robber. I started in January 2013 because I had no job after completing my secondary school education,” he said.

Nigerian Bishop Rapés Female Student; Claims He Was Hypnotised

Chairman of All Bishops in Rivers State, Bishop Chibuike Nwabueze, who was arrested for allegedly ráping a 15-year old girl, was paraded by the state Police Command on Tuesday.

The Bishop confessed to the crime in the presence of journalists but claimed that:

He was hypnotised, adding that he was set up by the pastor of the church where the incident occurred as it seems some of those interested in his position don’t like him. Bishop Nwabueze claimed that it was not rapé but just séx that happened so fast. He claimed she removed her clothes after he finished praying for her in the office and before he could shout ‘the blood of Jesus,’ he was already on top of the girl, having séx with her.

Constitution Amendment: Presidents, Governors To Lose Immunity

Following recommendations obtained in its public sessions, the ad-hoc committee of the House of Representatives has presented its report on the review of the 1999 Constitution.

Making the presentation on Thursday, the chairman of the ad-hoc committee, Emeka Ihedioha, said the committee has removed immunity from prosecution previously enjoyed by the President and state governors.
The report also shows that the committee threw out over 35 requests for new states, even as it grants local governments autonomy, to manage their own accounts.

Nigeria Sets New World Record In Tooth Brushing

Three hundred thousand pupils from across 600 public schools in Lagos, yesterday, made history as they set a new World Record in tooth brushing.

The pupils set the Guinness World Record by brushing their teeth simultaneously for one minute across 326 locations in the state.

The previous record of 177, 003 was set by India in 2007.

'I'm innocent': Rapper 50 Cent denies claims he kicked ex-girlfriend in violent row

50 Cent insists he is innocent of domestic violence and vandalism charges.

The Candy Shop hitmaker, 37 – whose real name is Curtis Jackson - has been accused of kicking an unnamed ex-girlfriend, who police say has a child with him, and destroying some of her things during a dispute at her condo in Toluca Lake, California, on June 23 but 50 Cent claims to have no knowledge of the incident.

His New York attorney, Scott Leemo, said: 'Curtis Jackson denies these allegations as made against him. It is important to note, Mr. Jackson has not been arrested and there is no warrant outstanding for his arrest.

Police officers were called to the property, where the woman claimed she locked herself in her bedroom after she got into an altercation with 50 Cent but alleged he kicked down the door and kicked her, resulting in an injury.

The rapper, who is facing five charges, including one count of domestic violence and four counts of vandalism, reportedly left the house before police arrived.

If convicted, the award-winning star could face up to five years in jail and $46,000 in fines.

He is set to appear in court on July 22.
